Heli Innhopps to Norway’s Fjords and Glacier
Jump off a helicopter 10 times in five days, fly your parachute next to a waterfall, land on a glacier and on fjord side fields.
Welcome to the Innhopp Project’s return to Norway! 10 years after our most previous innhopp event in this magnificent country we are setting out to explore many of tiny arms of the second biggest fjord in Norway - Hardangerfjord. This is the home fjord of Even Rokne - the founder of The Innhopp Project. He knows this area very well and have chosen his favourite spots for us to jump in at using a slick helicopter - and the non jumpers will be joining with minibus.
Even’s Words
“At this event, every morning, a helicopter (AS-350B) comes from across the fjord and picks us up after breakfast. Then, day by day, we fly through each of these arms of the Hardangerord, and will skydive in places few have done before us, if any! We will be jumping amongst majestic waterfalls, we’ll be landing on top of a glacier and we’ll fly our canopies inbetween the sharp fjord mountains.
Some of the landing areas will be challenging in terms of elevation, surface and/or size, and on some spots this will be our only option. I advise you to be confident in landing within 50 m from your target every me, but in any case I trust you to make wise decisions for yourself after listening to the briefing.
My goal is to give you a taste of the dramatic Norway, fuelled by your adrenaline, filled up with some history and culture. We are for sure privileged to be able to explore this unique part of the world the way we do, and I believe the memories we create during this week will last for a long time.”
-Even Rokne
Where you’ll go!
Ten stunning locations have been chosen for this experience that spans over five days. Check out the video below for the itinerary! You can also look at the locations on this interactive Google Earth map.
Sunday August 18
We start off at 18.00 by meeting at the base of the event: Kvanndal Camping. (If you are jumping at Skydive Voss during the weekend, we could organize an Innhopp, Sunday afternoon and help get your car/luggage transported). Afterer check-in, we meet for dinner at the restaurant, and do our official opening of the event going through the plan, and introduce each other.
Monday August 19
Monday we explore Ulvikorden and Osaorden, the two fjords meeting where the famous painting Brureferd i Hardanger found it’s motive. Each of these fjords contains significantly different qualities, and one of them is among the best kept secrets in the area... We will visit some Belgian friends and go sea kayaking before the helicopter picks us up for our next jump. We’ll take a quick swim before we stop for a drink at beauful Brakanes Hotel. Going back for dinner, we’ll have a picturesque drive through the Hardangerfjord, passing through the special tunnel-roundabout by the Hardanger bridge.
Tuesday August 20
Tuesday we fly to Vøringsfossen, a stunning valley with high-falling waterfalls. We return down the infamous Måbø-valley, through the tunnels where a bus lost its brakes and many school children their lives. Enter Øvre Eidord and Hardangervidda Natursenter , we will have lunch before preparing for our next jump. We are ready for the V! A truly profound flight experience with a full-on landing area, and one that very few people have had. We stop by the hotel in Eidfjord before taking the ferry back to Kvanndal, where dinner and bonfire awaits.
Wednesday August 21
Wednesday is the day of Trolltunga. A fantastic photo motive normally requiring an 8 hour walk to reach, while we aim to cut off most of the up-hill distance... We will land our canopies at some distance from the viewpoint, then have a nice mountain hike - and for this I would recommend to bring clothes and shoes suited for hiking in the mountains. After photo session and lunch, we will do another hike to our pick up point. The helicopter drops us back to a fairgrounds in Kinsarvik - Mikkelparken in Kinsarvik. We’ll have a drink at Hardingatun, then walk to the ferry taking us back across the fjord to our dinner and bonfire.
Thursday August 22
Thursday - our big climax comes at the Glacier. Freefalling over the vast white snowcap surrounded by summer colors kind of sticks in your brain... If we are lucky the conditions allows for the summer ski lift to be open, in which case we could do some summer skiing, but in any case it should be suitable for speedflying take off with landing in the fjord below, then being picked up here to join the rest for the next jump close to Utne. Here we first pay a visit to the museum at the village before entering the infamous Utne Hotell for our final banquet. This hotel is the oldest wooden hotel in Norway still in service, and is renowned for its menu - and with a chef eager to welcome us!
Friday August 23
For our final day, we will fly into Botnen - a roadless village from the TV-series “A place where no one should believe anybody could live”. Here we will enjoy the spectacular and quiet surroundings while enjoying our final lunch.
As a final experience, we will all be challenged to land at a tiny little island - meaning if you miss, you won’t miss any of the jumps at the trip... ;-) There will of course be another option if you don’t want to risk getting wet, but I believe everyone coming dry back to shore, will feel very fulfilled!
We will have a short drive back to the campsite, where we finish the event and start on the goodbyes.
The Helicopter
Let's not play cool - we are childishly excited to do this event using a helicopter!
The obvious advantage of skydiving with a helicopter is that we don't have to shuttle back to an airfield between jumps. Instead we can go directly from one stunning landing to another - and spend more time experiencing the landscape!
The helicopter we're jumping from is a AS 350 B3 Ecureuil. It fits five passengers of which one will be your experienced load master who will decide if/when it is appropriate to jump.
The Team
All Inclusive
Relax and focus on the outdoor experience, as food and accommodation is fully included!
We base our event out of Even and Scott's campsite in Kvanndal - a location which is central in Hardangerfjord, near the helicopter base and offers the perfect facilities for a classic innhopp event - food, a place to stay and a fireplace! We advise all participants to stay at the campsite - because it is where your days will start and finish - but also because we get the best family spirit when we are all together! However, we offer discounts on the price if you'd like to stay somewhere else.
Food
Norway is not known for its culinary variety but we promise you three meals per day including a breakfast buffet and a variety of the local delicacies including local caught fish and wild game. A couple of dinners will be had in restaurants around Hardangerfjord, as per the schedule!
Accommodation
Kvanndal Camping offer cabins which you’ll share with your friend/spouse/family member if you’re bringing one! Otherwise we’ll match you together with another participant. Cabins are simple but have their own bathroom with shower. Check out the webpage for Kvanndal Camping!
